Does odo work without a connection?

Drives are recorded offline

Yes — a drive is recorded without signal. The route and the distance come from the phone's GPS, which needs no internet. The drive is kept on the phone and uploads by itself once the phone is back online, and until then Home says N drives tracked offline.

If the phone has signal but odo cannot be reached, Home says waiting to upload instead. There is nothing to do either way: the drives go up as soon as odo answers.

What needs a connection

Without a connection odo shows the drives and totals it last loaded, for up to a day. Changes are not saved offline: sorting or editing a drive, adding an odometer reading, pausing tracking, changing a place. The screen says Connect to … or shows an error, and the change can be made again once you are online.

If drives stay waiting

Drives upload while auto-tracking is on. If it is paused, they wait on the phone until it is back on. Opening odo with a connection also sends whatever is waiting. If Home still says waiting to upload hours later on a good connection, email hello@odo.tax.
