Mileage tracking that works while you drive

OdoTax runs in the background all year. You touch it when it suits you, and again when it is time to file.

The IRS lets you deduct 76¢ for every business mile you drive since July 1, and 72.5¢ for the ones before it. Hand-kept logs miss most of them — OdoTax keeps the record that turns those miles into an actual deduction.

Your own miles, at this year's rate

Move the slider to the week you actually drive. The arithmetic is the same one the IRS uses. For a whole year, another year or medical and charity miles, use the mileage calculator.

Deduction for a year of these weeks

$9,266

240 miles a week × 26 weeks at 72.5¢ + 26 at 76¢

That is what comes off your taxable income, not a check — what you keep depends on your own rate. And it assumes every week looks like this one.

The IRS raised the business rate on July 1, so a 2026 year is half at 72.5¢ and half at 76¢. OdoTax prices every drive by its own date — a spreadsheet with one rate in it does not.

The report behind every deduction

This is what leaves OdoTax at tax time: a plain log of what you drove, already priced at the standard rate.

Built for every driver whose car is part of the job

Any 1099 income plus a vehicle means deductible miles. These are the people who rack them up fastest.

Rideshare & delivery

Dozens of short trips a day across two or three apps, plus the miles between orders nobody pays for.

Real estate & sales

Showings, listings and client visits — the driving between them is the deductible part.

Trades & mobile services

Job sites, supply runs and callbacks add up faster than any other line on the return.

Freelancers & consultants

Irregular client drives are the easiest to forget, and the easiest to automate.

FAQ

What people ask before they install a mileage tracker.

There is no cap on the miles or on the dollars — the deduction is your business miles times the rate. What limits it is what counts as business, and a log you cannot produce can be disallowed in full, not trimmed.

No. Home to a regular place of work is personal in both directions, however far it is. Driving between two work locations does count — the supplier, the second site, the client and back.

The one in force on the day of the drive: 72.5¢ before July 1, 2026, and 76¢ after it. OdoTax prices every drive by its own date, so a year that spans the change adds up on its own.

Not on a federal return: unreimbursed employee mileage went with the other miscellaneous itemized deductions and has not come back. The log is still worth keeping — it is what an employer reimburses against, and a reimbursement at the IRS rate is tax-free to you. A few states still allow the deduction on the state return.

Not the standard rate: five or more vehicles in use at the same time have to be claimed on actual expenses instead. OdoTax still logs every mile and every vehicle, but the totals it shows are worked at the standard rate, so they would not be the figure you file.

No. OdoTax detects motion on its own and logs the trip from the moment the car moves. There is no start button — you drive the way you always have.

It records every trip and you sort each one with a single tap. OdoTax learns the routes you take often, so a week of driving usually takes about a minute to clear.

Every trip carries the date, start and end points, distance and purpose, captured as it happened: a record made at or near the time of each drive, what people mean by a contemporaneous mileage log and the kind of record the rules call for. Export the year as a PDF and hand it over as is.

OdoTax leans on the low-power motion sensors your phone already runs and only reaches for GPS once you are moving. Expect a percent or two a day, about what a weather app costs.

Only you. Trips are stored in your account to build your log, and you can export or delete everything at any time.

Yes. OdoTax logs automatically from the day you install it, and earlier months can be entered by hand if you kept records. Half a year of accurate miles still beats a shoebox of receipts.
