How do I add a drive by hand?
In the app
Any drive OdoTax did not record can be added on the phone:
- Open the Drives tab and tap +. The form is called Log a drive
- At the top, pick what the drive was. Business is picked when the form opens; Personal is beside it, and More has commute, medical, charity and moving
- Tap From, then To. Pick a saved place, or type three characters or more to search an address or a place
- Check the Distance. OdoTax fills it in by road once both ends are picked; type your own figure if you drove another way
- Set When to the day and time the drive started, and check the Vehicle. A business or personal drive also has a Purpose row
- Tap Save drive
Parking, tolls and a note are not on this form. Open the saved drive from Drives to add them: Do parking and tolls count?. If a place will not come up: What if OdoTax can't find an address?.
On the site
Any drive OdoTax did not record can be added in the web account:
- Sign in at my.odo.tax and open Trips
- Click Add a drive
- Type in From and To and pick each one from the list. Your saved places and the addresses you have driven to come first
- Set When and Until, the start and the end of the drive. Until follows the road's driving time unless you set it yourself
- Classify it — the ••• menu has your purposes — and add the vehicle, parking, tolls or a note if you want
- Click Save drive
A drive saved with no class is filed as a recorded one would be when a frequent drive covers the route or Auto-classify is on — see Can OdoTax file drives I make every week? — and otherwise waits under To classify. If a place will not come up: What if OdoTax can't find an address?.
The site has no field for the distance: OdoTax measures the road between the two addresses and shows it at the bottom of the form. To enter a distance of your own, add the drive in the app.
A forgotten shift, or drives from before OdoTax
The form takes one drive at a time, with one From and one To, so a shift you forgot to track goes in drive by drive. A drive added by hand can be from any day between January 1 three years ago and today, so last year's mileage, or mileage from before you used OdoTax, can go in too. A day that has not come yet cannot be added.
If Google Maps Timeline was on at the time, its drives can be imported instead of entered one by one: How do I import drives from Google Maps Timeline?. On the site, Duplicate opens Add a drive filled in from a drive you already have, ready for a new day and time: Can I copy a drive?. On the free plan a drive counts toward the 35 of the month it was driven in, not the month you add it: What happens when I hit the free limit?. If you kept no log at the time: I didn’t keep a mileage log. What can I do?.
Once it is saved
The drive says Added by hand in the app and on the site. A report marks it with an asterisk (*) in the PDF and Entered by hand in the CSV. Its class, purpose, vehicle, parking, tolls and note can still be changed. Where it started and ended, its day, its time and its distance are fixed once it is saved: to correct one, delete the drive and add it again — How do I change or delete a drive?.
