How do I connect OdoTax to Claude?

What Claude can do with it

Connected, Claude can answer questions about your own mileage log in plain words: how many business miles you drove this year, what your deduction comes to, which drives are not sorted yet, or what is still missing before tax time. If you tick Also let Claude make changes when you connect it, it can also sort drives, set their purpose, edit their notes, parking, tolls and vehicle, name the place where a drive started or ended, rename your saved places, and add, rename and hide your purposes. It cannot add or delete a drive, change its miles or times, move or delete a place you saved, or delete a purpose.

Connect it

  1. In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and choose Browse connectors
  2. Find odo.tax and press Connect — or open its page in Claude's directory and connect it there
  3. Sign in to OdoTax if asked, tick Also let Claude make changes if you want it to sort and edit drives, name places and keep your purposes, and press Allow

Add it on claude.ai or in the Claude desktop app. Once it is added, it works in Claude's phone apps too.

Claude Code and other apps

An app that is not in Claude's directory — Claude Code, or another app that speaks MCP — connects by address. Add a custom connector named odo.tax with the address https://my.odo.tax/mcp, keep sign-in automatic (OAuth, the client registers itself) and add no headers; then connect and allow it as above. The same address and steps are under Settings → Security → Connected apps at my.odo.tax, with buttons to copy them.

Stop Claude asking every time

At first Claude asks before each look into OdoTax. To let it read without asking, open Settings → Connectors → odo.tax in Claude, and next to Read-only tools choose Always allow. Those tools only read. If you let Claude make changes, its tools for sorting and editing drives, naming places and keeping your purposes are listed apart, and Claude asks before each change unless you choose Always allow for them too. You can also press Always allow instead of Allow once the first time Claude asks for each tool.

What it can read

Your drives (dates, times, places, miles, category, purpose and notes), your totals and deduction with the rates used, your vehicles and odometer readings, your saved places, and your list of purposes. Never the GPS track of a drive, your payments or your devices. What Claude keeps of a conversation follows Anthropic's privacy policy and your Claude settings.

What it can change

Only if you ticked Also let Claude make changes: a drive's category and purpose (only purposes you keep), its notes, parking and tolls, and its vehicle — the same changes you make in the app. A drive held for review stays held until you confirm it, and a drive over the free plan's monthly limit keeps its category and purpose (its notes, parking, tolls and vehicle can still be changed, as in the app). Only you can file a drive as Moving or take one out of it. It can also name the place where a drive started or ended: OdoTax saves it under Settings → Named places, and drives that started or ended within about 100 m (330 ft) of it show that name in the app. It can rename a place you saved too — only the name: the place stays where it is, Home stays Home and Work stays Work. Reports always print the address, never the name. It never moves or deletes your places. It can keep your list of purposes too: add one, rename one, or hide one from the pickers and show it again. Drives already filed with a purpose keep the name they were filed with when it is renamed, and your frequent drives that set it take the new name. It never deletes a purpose. It never changes miles, times or the route, and it cannot add or delete drives. To turn changes on or off, disconnect it and connect it again with the box ticked or not. Changes it already made stay; you can change those drives back, rename a place back or delete one it named, and rename or delete a purpose, in the app or at my.odo.tax. A purpose it hid is shown again at my.odo.tax: Settings → Custom purposes → Show again.

Disconnect it

Sign in at my.odo.tax, open Settings → Security → Connected apps and press Disconnect. Claude stops reading and changing at once; changes it already made stay. Changing your password or closing your account disconnects it too. Connected from more than one Claude account, each shows as its own row, with when it was connected and last used; press Rename to give each a name you will recognise, such as Work Claude.
