How do I connect OdoTax to Claude?

Shown on the website

What Claude can do with it

Connected, Claude can answer questions about your own mileage log in plain words: how many business miles you drove this year, what your deduction comes to, which drives are not sorted yet, or what is still missing before tax time. If you tick Also let Claude make changes when you connect it, it can also sort drives, set their purpose, edit their notes, parking, tolls and vehicle, add a drive the app missed, name the place where a drive started or ended, rename your saved places, add, rename and hide your purposes, add vehicles and edit their details, add and correct odometer readings, and make mileage reports and email them to you. It cannot delete a drive, change its miles or times, move or delete a place you saved, delete a purpose, hide or delete a vehicle, delete an odometer reading, or send a report to anyone else.

Connect it

  1. In Claude, open Customize in the sidebar and choose the Connectors tab
  2. Under Discover, press the search button, type odo.tax and open odo.tax (by Odo Labs LLC) — or open its page in Claude's directory
  3. Press Connect to Claude
  4. Sign in to OdoTax if asked, tick Also let Claude make changes if you want it to sort, edit and add drives, name places, keep your purposes, vehicles and odometer readings, and make reports, and press Allow

Claude then shows Connected on odo.tax's card. Add it on claude.ai, in the Claude desktop app or in Claude's phone apps; once it is added, it works in all of them.

Claude Code, and adding it by address

Claude Code signed in with your claude.ai account finds the connectors you added there by itself, odo.tax among them. Otherwise add it in a terminal with claude mcp add --transport http odo-tax https://my.odo.tax/mcp, then type /mcp in Claude Code, sign in to OdoTax and allow it as above. On claude.ai the same address works as a custom connector: name it odo.tax, give it the address https://my.odo.tax/mcp, keep the sign-in settings Claude finds for it, with no OAuth client ID or secret of your own, and add no request headers. The address is for Claude: it works in Claude's apps and in Claude Code, not in every app that uses MCP. At my.odo.tax, Settings → Security → Connected apps shows the name and the address, each with a button to copy it.

Stop Claude asking every time

At first Claude asks before each look into OdoTax, with Decline, Allow once and Always allow; Always allow stops it asking for that tool. To set them all at once, open Customize → Connectors → Yours → odo.tax → Tool permissions in Claude. Each tool can be on Always allow, Needs approval or Blocked, and each group has a setting for all of its tools; a new connection starts on Needs approval. To let Claude read without asking, choose Always allow for Read-only tools: those only read. If you let Claude make changes, its tools for sorting, editing and adding drives, naming places, keeping your purposes, vehicles and odometer, and making reports are under Write/delete tools (Claude's name for the group: none of them deletes anything), and Claude asks before each change unless you choose Always allow for them too.

What it can read

Your drives (dates, times, places, miles, category, purpose and notes), your totals and deduction with the rates used, your vehicles and odometer readings, your saved places, your list of purposes, and the reports you made (their period, totals and whether they are ready, not the files). A drive over the free plan's monthly limit reaches Claude only as its day, the time it started, its vehicle and how it was added. Never the GPS track of a drive, your email address, your payments or your devices. What Claude keeps of a conversation follows Anthropic's privacy policy and your Claude settings.

What it can change

Only if you ticked Also let Claude make changes: a drive's category and purpose (only purposes you keep), its notes, parking and tolls, and its vehicle — the same changes you make in the app. A drive held for review stays held until you confirm it. A drive over the free plan's monthly limit keeps its category, purpose, notes, parking and tolls: Claude can change only its vehicle, as in the app, and cannot name the places where it started or ended. Only you can file a drive as Moving or take one out of it. It can also name the place where a drive started or ended: OdoTax saves it under Settings → Named places, and drives that started or ended within about 100 m (330 ft) of it show that name in the app. It can rename a place you saved too — only the name: the place stays where it is, Home stays Home and Work stays Work. Reports always print the address, never the name. It never moves or deletes your places. It can keep your list of purposes too: add one, rename one, or hide one from the pickers and show it again. Drives already filed with a purpose keep the name they were filed with when it is renamed, and your frequent drives that set it take the new name. It never deletes a purpose. It never changes the miles, times or route of a drive, and it cannot delete drives. To turn changes on or off, disconnect it and connect it again with the box ticked or not. Changes it already made stay; you can change those drives back or delete a drive it added, rename a place back or delete one it named, rename or delete a purpose, and change a vehicle or a reading back, in the app or at my.odo.tax. A purpose it hid is shown again at my.odo.tax: Settings → Custom purposes → Show again.

Adding a drive the app missed

Only if you ticked Also let Claude make changes. Tell Claude the day, the time the drive started, and where it started and ended — an address, or the name of a place you saved. OdoTax finds the two addresses and measures the miles by road, and Claude shows you what it found before anything is saved; the drive is added only after you say yes. It is marked Added by Claude in the app, on the website and in reports. If one of your frequent drives covers the route, or Auto-classify is on, it is filed as the same trip recorded by the app would be; otherwise it is saved unsorted, and Claude can sort it with your yes. The miles are always the road's. For a distance of your own, add the drive by hand in the app instead: How do I add a drive by hand?. Claude does not add a drive for a time when you already have one, or one that is not over yet. As anywhere in OdoTax, a drive added by hand can be at most three years old, counted from January 1. Claude measures up to 30 drives a day for you (5 in your account's first week, or while your email address is not confirmed) and adds up to 20; a round trip is two drives, there and back. On the free plan it cannot add a drive to a month that already holds its 35 free drives: What happens when I hit the free limit?.

Vehicles and odometer readings

Only if you ticked Also let Claude make changes. Claude can add a vehicle and edit its name, make, model, year, fuel, plate or VIN, the day it was placed in service and which vehicle is the default for new drives. It can add an odometer reading from the number you give it, or from a photo of your dashboard, and correct one; it reads the number and the day back to you first. A vehicle takes one reading a day. A reading lower than an earlier one is saved, as in the app, and Claude tells you about it. It never hides or deletes a vehicle and never deletes a reading: you do that in the app or at my.odo.tax.

Reports

Claude can list the reports you made. If you ticked Also let Claude make changes, it can make a new one for the period and drives you agree on, and email a report to the address you sign in with. It never sends one to anyone else, and it does not get the report's files: you open and download them under Reports in the app or at my.odo.tax.

Disconnect it

Sign in at my.odo.tax, open Settings → Security → Connected apps and press Disconnect. Claude stops reading and changing at once; changes it already made stay. Changing your password or your email address, or closing your account, disconnects it too. Each row says Can read or Can read and make changes, with when it was connected and last used. Connected from more than one Claude account, each shows as its own row; press Rename to give each a name you will recognize, such as Work Claude. To take it off Claude's side as well, open Customize → Connectors → Yours → odo.tax in Claude and press Disconnect.
